December 8, 2025
Dear SRJC colleagues,
As a follow-up to my May 2025 communication outlining the updated Banner Student Information System (SIS) implementation timeline. I am pleased to share the latest progress and what to expect in the weeks and months ahead.
We remain on track for Banner to support Priority Registration beginning April 19, 2026. This continues to be our central milestone, and all current work is aligned with preparing the system for that date.
To support a smooth and accurate transition, we will separate the Summer 2026 and Fall 2026 class schedules and registration periods. Taking this additional step provides more time for careful review and helps ensure that the first schedules created in Banner receive the thoughtful attention they require.
Important Student Email & ID Update:
All students have been notified that they will need to ensure they have access to their Bear Cub email address (@bearcubs.santarosa.edu). In the coming months, students will receive their new SRJC Student ID Number through this email, which will replace their current Student ID and will be the credential for accessing the Bear Cub Hub and all future SRJC services. Beginning January 5, 2026, all Canvas communications and other student correspondence will be directed exclusively to these new @bearcubs email accounts.
Across the District, project teams have been engaged in a series of focused workstream meetings, bringing together functional and technical experts to complete data validation, finalize system configurations, and work through questions in real time. This behind-the-scenes work is essential to ensuring the stability and usability of the system once it goes live. It also represents an extraordinary level of commitment, collaboration, and problem-solving. I want to express my sincere appreciation to every individual contributing their time and expertise to this effort.
In parallel, the team is conducting a comprehensive review of the software applications that integrate with our current SIS to determine which systems must transition by the April go-live and which may move later in a phased approach. This strategy supports continuity for students and minimizes disruption as we evolve our technology ecosystem.
Our shared goal remains clear: to deliver a system that is reliable, thoughtfully implemented, and designed to strengthen the student experience for years to come.
I know many of you are feeling the natural anxiety that comes with a change of this scale, and I want to acknowledge that openly. This project touches nearly every part of the District, and it is normal to feel the uncertainty that comes with such a significant transition. At the same time, this migration to Banner and its partner products brings meaningful opportunities, including greater efficiencies, improved processes, and enhanced compliance, that will benefit our students and our work into the future.
We will continue to share updates as major milestones are reached and ahead of upcoming changes. This spring, we will also offer a range of training opportunities to help everyone prepare for the rollout and feel confident using the new system.
Thank you for your continued patience, partnership, and dedication as we move through this next phase. I wish each of you a restful and happy winter break and holiday season. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.
Kate
