Key Terms for the Banner Ecosystem
| Banner | The new SIS database system accessed by administrative and student support services. |
| Bearcubs email | @bearcubs.santarosa.edu email accounts are now the primary place students will receive important SRJC messages related to enrollment, registration, and student records |
| CRN | "Course Registration Numbers" are formally known as section numbers in the Legacy SIS. CRN is unique to the term, meeting occurrence, faculty, and building. They are not duplicated in the term but can be reused in a like term in the future. |
| Ellucian | The Vendor that provides Banner Saas, Experience (Bear Cub Hub), Self-Service, Degree Works, Insights, and CRM Advise |
| Experience | The Bear Cub Hub is the new name for the new Faculty, Student, and Employee portals. Ellucian calls the product Experience. SRJC calls it Bear Cub Hub.rtal to submit required forms for Financial Aid |
| Insights | The new Ellucian delivered reporting tool that will replace the Legacy SIS reporting tool. |
| Legacy systems | Systems that were in use before the Banner SISI implementation.CCApply is the primary way students apply to SRJC |
| Legacy Student ID | The unique identifier in Legacy SIS that students currently use to log into SSO. This ID can be used to search for a student in Banner if they do not know their new Student ID. |
| New Student ID | A unique identifier assigned to each student, faculty member, and employee in Banner. The student will use this New Student ID to access SSO. The format will be "S" followed by 8-digit number |
| SasS | "Software as a Service". This version of Banner is provisioned as a SaaS instance |
| Self-Service Banner | A module in Banner, accessible through the Bear Cub Hub, that allows students, faculty, and employees to engage with user-specific tasks such as registering for classes, viewing rosters, etc. |
| SSO | "Single-Sign-On" (SSO)/Identity Provider (IDP) is how many third-party applications are set-up with authentication |
| Third Party Apps | Applications, systems, and new extensibility tools that either aid, modify, replace, or improve business processes that Banner alone cannot process. |
