Academic Affairs & Faculty Updates
Updates impacting instruction, Canvas, and scheduling
| Topic | Details |
| Grade Changes & Late Grades | You can change your final grades as many times as needed until the final grade deadline listed on the Academic Calendar. Grades have been finalized for Summer 2026. Submit any grade changes or late grades for summer using the Grade Change Form, which is available on a new card in the Bear Cub Hub Faculty Portal. Summer degrees and certificates will be posted in Banner by Tuesday, August 25. More information is available in the Faculty FAQs, or you can reach out directly to Michelle Parrish in Admissions and Records. |
| Authorization (Add) Codes | Authorization codes (previously called add codes) are generated 1 week before classes begin. Authorization codes can be provided to students as soon as they are generated and can be used to register from the first day of class until the day before the Census date. You can find these dates for your section by clicking your section number (CRN) and selecting Important Dates from the left-side menu. More information about using authorization codes is available in the Faculty FAQs. |
| Dropping Linked Courses | To prevent uneven drops for linked courses, Banner has been configured so that it will warn the student that they will be dropped from both courses and will enforce the drop of both courses. |
| How Late-Start Sections Work | When a course has lower-than-expected enrollment but continued student demand, the college may offer it as a late-start section. Because changing an existing section’s dates can affect financial-aid and veterans-benefit requirements, the original section is canceled, and a new section is created with a new CRN, new dates, and potentially a different instructional modality. Also, if a Canvas course has been created, the instructor may want to download the content from the original course before the section is canceled since they will not have access to it afterward. View instructions for exporting a Canvas course here. |

Updates impacting admissions, registration, and student support

Financial Aid Disbursement In Process | Fall financial aid is now being disbursed through Banner. The initial disbursement was smaller than usual because some student records, including Satisfactory Academic Progress evaluations, are still being processed. Financial Aid expects the number of completed disbursements to increase as updated data becomes available next week. Aid is considered disbursed when it posts to the student’s account. Funds may take an additional 24–48 hours to become available through BankMobile. Students should continue monitoring both their student account and BankMobile for updates. |
Known Registration Issues | The project team is investigating reports of linked-course registration issues, unexpected auto-drops, and registration lockouts when using Safari. These issues may require individual review. Please direct students who need immediate registration assistance to the Welcome and Connect Center and report new examples through the SIS Ask A Question Form. |
Upcoming Student Identity Verification Requirement | Beginning October 1, 2026, all new students must verify their identity before their application can be processed, as required by the California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office. Identity verification can be completed through ID.me, the California DMV Mobile Wallet, or an approved in-person verification process. Students who submit an application but have not completed identity verification will remain in a pending status until verification is completed. Please note that these pending applications are not the result of a Banner issue. |
What’s Improved - Prerequisite Registration Issues | Most prerequisite issues reported during registration have been resolved. A smaller number involving inconsistent results between Degree Works and Banner remain under review, and the team is evaluating a recent Degree Works patch. Direct students who still can't register because of a prerequisite to Counseling. |
