February 18, 2026
Dear SRJC community,
As we continue implementing the Banner student information system, we want to clarify what has changed, what remains the same, and what to expect in the coming weeks. This update is intended to ensure consistency in how we support students during the transition.
Below are the five most important things to know at this time.
- Students are receiving messages in both their personal and @bearcubs email accounts
As of January 5, 2026, District communications are being sent to @bearcubs emails as the primary account, and students are encouraged to check them regularly. During the Banner transition, students may receive messages in both their personal email accounts and their @bearcubs email.
Through the end of the Spring term, Student Portal notifications, including registration confirmations and registration receipts, along with messages sent by faculty to students, will be delivered to both students’ personal email accounts and their @bearcubs email accounts to ensure continuity during the transition.
Canvas notifications default to students’ @bearcubs email accounts. Students who wish to receive Canvas notifications at a personal email address may add one within Canvas. Step-by-step instructions are available on the Distance Education website.
- New SRJC Student IDs will be needed to access the new Student Portal (Bear Cub Hub)
As part of the Banner transition, students will receive a new SRJC Student ID (SID). SIDs are expected to be distributed in March and will be sent to both students’ @bearcubs email accounts and personal email accounts. They will be required to log in to the Bear Cub Hub, which is replacing the current Student Portal.
Additional information and instructions related to the SID will be shared in the coming weeks.
- Communicate securely when responding to students via personal email
Faculty and staff may respond to students who contact them from a personal email address. When doing so, please keep the following guidance in mind:- Verify the student’s identity before responding to any substantive request. When possible, confirm identity through an offline method or other SRJC communication channel.
- Do not share FERPA-protected information when communicating via personal email (academic records, personal information, financial records, event multimedia of students, such as project presentations)
- For class-wide or official communications, use Student Portal messaging or Canvas, which provides secure and consistent communication channels
- Employee single sign-on credentials will remain the same
As part of this transition, there is no change to how employees log in. All employees will continue to use their existing SRJC username.
- Resources & Training
The Student Information System website (https://sis.santarosa.edu/) includes FAQs that will continue to be updated throughout the transition. Additional training and resources will be available in the coming weeks, including tutorials and job aids for navigating Bear Cub Hub, registration, Faculty Self Service, and related tools. Questions may also be submitted through the website.
Supporting Students
Students will receive similar communications before the end of the week outlining what they need to know now. Additional materials, including flyers, digital screens, and Canvas messages, will be distributed in the coming weeks.
The SRJC Welcome & Connect Center is available to assist students at the Santa Rosa, Petaluma, and Roseland campuses: https://welcome.santarosa.edu/centers
Thank you for your continued support of our students as we implement these changes.
